Mobily ties stc on speed, not the Platinum Gaming Operator

CST’s GameMode report for Q2 2026 named stc Platinum Gaming Operator for the first half, after a 60% improvement versus Q2 2025. Steam downloads hit 100% in a three-way tie. stc alone led latency on eight titles. The award is a repeat, not a debut.

Platinum Gaming Operator is the label the Communications, Space and Technology Commission put on stc in its GameMode report for the second quarter of 2026. The regulator said overall gaming performance among Saudi operators improved by 60 percent against the same quarter of 2025. stc took the award for the first half of 2026 after the highest combined score on the published criteria: local hosting of games, quality of the play experience, support for operator gaming packages, cloud platforms, and esports events for the player community. That is the punch. This is not a booth prize. CST measures download behaviour and latency on live titles, then publishes the table. Steam download performance hit 100 percent, shared by Mobily, stc and Salam. PlayStation hit 98 percent, shared by the same three. Xbox hit 98 percent, shared by Mobily and Salam. On latency the split is sharper. stc and Mobily jointly led Call of Duty, EA Sports FC, Marvel Rivals, eFootball and Overwatch. stc alone led eight titles, including League of Legends, VALORANT, DOTA 2, Counter-Strike, StarCraft 2, Call of Duty Mobile, Teamfight Tactics and Mobile Legends. Mobily alone led Free Fire and PUBG. Zain led Honor of Kings and PUBG Mobile. The award is a streak, not a debut. CST gave stc the same Platinum Gaming Operator mark for the second half of 2025. A company note in August 2025 called an earlier half the ninth consecutive win. Local hosting and package design keep showing up in the criteria, which is how a fixed-line and mobile incumbent collects points a pure mobile challenger does not. Latency leadership on eight titles is the part a player can feel. A community-events line on the scorecard is the part a rival can call soft. GameMode exists so the esports calendar has a network underneath it. The Kingdom has spent years putting world cups and publisher studios on the Riyadh stage. A 60 percent year-on-year lift in the regulator’s gaming score is the infrastructure half of that bet: packets staying in the country, packages that do not throttle a match, and a public table operators cannot edit. Shared 100 percent on Steam means the download race is largely over. The remaining fight is milliseconds on the titles Saudis actually queue. The MENA angle is a regulator scoreboard, not a brand film. UAE and Egyptian operators talk gaming bundles. CST prints a quarterly sheet that names who won latency on VALORANT and who tied on PlayStation. That is usable by a venue, a publisher and a parent choosing a fibre plan. It is also a moat. If the platinum mark keeps landing on the incumbent because local hosting and esports sponsorship sit in the rubric beside ping, the table is rewarding balance-sheet scale as much as radio quality. Caveats: the 60 percent is a commission comparison, not an independent lab. Award criteria mix network tests with community activity, so the trophy is not pure latency. Download “100 percent” is a regulator index, not a promise that every home hits line rate. Secondary write-ups have quoted point totals. The official notes used here did not. Do not treat a blog score as the CST sheet. If the next GameMode file shows stc still leading latency on the eight titles and a rival closing the platinum gap, the badge was earned twice. If the gap is only events and hosting credits, count ping. Watch the Q3 table, not the trophy photo.
