Egypt’s awards create an Arab Entrepreneur of the Year

Arab Entrepreneur of the Year is the new door Egypt’s Entrepreneur Awards has cut into a sixth edition that used to stop at the Egyptian register. On 28 September 2026 in Cairo, ievents founder Amr Mansi said the prize is open to firms in any sector if at least one founder is Arab and the company is commercially registered in an Arab country. Operating age is two years minimum and under ten. One category only. Supporting documents required. Applications sit at eeawards.org/en/application. That is the punch. EEA is not inventing a stock exchange. It is widening a ceremony so a founder in Riyadh, Amman or Casablanca can stand on the same stage as a Cairo operator. The theme this year is Collective Momentum. That phrase only works if the longlist is actually regional. A single new trophy does not integrate capital markets. It does create a shared shortlist that investors already in the room can read. The jury named in the note is three people, not four. H.E. Dr. Nabeel Koshak, board member and former founding chief executive of Saudi Venture Capital, sits with Amr El Abd, entrepreneurship advisor to Egypt’s prime minister and regional managing director at Endeavor MENA, and Abdallah Abu-Sheikh, founder of Abu Dhabi’s Mal. The English release trails off on “Completing the jury is.” No fourth name is usable. Do not invent one. The bench already mixes Saudi growth capital, Egypt’s official entrepreneurship desk and a large UAE Islamic-fintech cheque. That is the evaluation lens: scale capital, policy networks, Gulf product ambition. Eligibility will do more work than the speeches. Two to ten years cuts out garage slides and listed conglomerates. An Arab founder plus an Arab commercial register still allows a holding company in one capital and operations in another. It excludes a purely European-registered vehicle with an Arab co-founder and no local file. Multiple-category bans stop founders spraying the form. Documentation will be the real filter. Awards of this type fail when the pack is a pitch deck without financials. The sixth edition also installs an Advisory Board for 2025–2030, chaired by H.E. Rachid Mohamed Rachid, founder of Alsara and Bidayat and chairman of Valentino. Names listed beside him: Ahmed El Alfi, Ayman Ismail, Neveen El Tahri, Onsi Sawiris and Yasmine Khamis. That is an Egypt-heavy governance layer around a prize now sold as pan-Arab. The tension is useful. Cairo keeps the institution. The new category borrows Gulf and Levant deal flow. Mansi called the award a natural evolution and said connecting founders should produce collaboration, shared learning and growth. Take that as the organiser’s intent. EEA remains a recognition platform run by ievents, not a fund. A trophy does not replace a term sheet from SVC or a slot in Endeavor. It can put a second-country founder in front of people who write those. The MENA angle is institutional spillover from Egypt’s awards calendar into a regional founder brand. Maghreb and Gulf programmes already run their own nights. A Cairo-based prize with a Saudi juror and an Emirati founder-judge is an attempt to sit above those nights without moving the secretariat. If applications arrive from outside Egypt in volume, Collective Momentum is a list. If the shortlist is still mostly Cairo, it is a subtitle. Caveats: no prize purse, no scoring rubric and no closing date sat in the note used here. The incomplete jury sentence should be treated as a hole in the release, not as a secret fourth judge. “All sectors” still has to survive the documents test. If EEA publishes a geographically mixed shortlist and a named winner with a real register, Arab Entrepreneur of the Year started. If the night is six Egyptian finalists and a regional slogan, the category was a press line. Count non-Egyptian files.
