About Deliveroo

Deliveroo is an online food delivery platform founded in London. It describes itself as a three-sided marketplace that connects consumers, restaurants and other merchants, and self-employed riders. It also runs on-demand grocery delivery and Editions delivery-only kitchens. Its website lists operations in the United Arab Emirates, Belgium, France, Ireland, Italy, Kuwait and the United Kingdom, and it is now part of DoorDash.

Will Shu and Greg Orlowski founded the company in 2013. Shu, who had moved to London that year, started the service and worked as its first rider. Grocery delivery was added in 2018. Deliveroo listed on the London Stock Exchange in March 2021 at 390 pence per share, and the shares fell sharply on the first day of trading. Shu remained chief executive until the DoorDash takeover completed.

In the Gulf, the company's website lists the UAE and Kuwait as current markets. In 2025 Hargreaves Lansdown, republishing the Evening Standard, counted nine countries including Qatar. In February 2026 DoorDash announced it would wind down operations in Qatar, Singapore, Japan and Uzbekistan across the Deliveroo and Wolt brands, after a multi-month review of country-specific conditions.

On 6 May 2025 DoorDash and Deliveroo agreed a GBP 2.9 billion takeover at 180 pence per share, a 29 percent premium to the price before the approach was confirmed. The takeover completed through a court-approved scheme of arrangement in early October 2025, at a value Yahoo Finance put at 3.8 billion dollars. Shu stepped down on completion. Miki Kuusi, previously head of international at DoorDash and a co-founder of Wolt, became Deliveroo's chief executive and was still described in that role in February 2026.

For 2024 Deliveroo reported its first full-year profit, GBP 3 million against a loss of GBP 32 million in 2023, with adjusted EBITDA of GBP 130 million. In March 2025 it announced it would exit Hong Kong. For the first half of 2025 it reported 147 million orders, up 8 percent, and gross transaction value of GBP 3.8 billion, up 9 percent.
