About Calo
Calo is a meal subscription company that delivers ready-to-eat meals matched to each customer's calorie and macronutrient goals. Customers choose a plan in its app, such as High Protein, Balanced, Vegetarian or Low Carb, and the company's website says the menu adds more than 80 new meal options each week. It also operates The Cafe and a large-orders service. Its website lists Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman, and the company acquired two meal businesses in the United Kingdom in 2025.
Calo was founded in Bahrain towards the end of 2019 by Ahmed Al Rawi, with Moayed Almoayed joining as co-founder, according to Wamda. Its careers site says it launched in Bahrain in November 2019 and lists offices in Bahrain and Riyadh. Khwarizmi Ventures says Calo entered Saudi Arabia in June 2021 with a kitchen in Riyadh. Wamda's December 2024 report, which carries a company release, describes Calo as headquartered in Riyadh, and TechCrunch and Enterprise also call it a Saudi company. Al Rawi is chief executive.
Enterprise reported in May 2025 that Calo had bought the UK brands Fresh Fitness Food and Detox Kitchen without disclosing terms, its first move outside the Gulf. In July 2025 TechCrunch reported that Calo planned to partner with Armah Sports Company in Saudi Arabia on a gym subscription bundle. Calo said it delivered more than 10 million meals in 2024 and runs five physical locations, and its website, undated when read, cites 290,000 customers and 19 million meals delivered in total.
Calo raised a $13.5 million seed round in December 2021, co-led by Khwarizmi Ventures, Nuwa Capital and STV. In December 2022 it raised $13 million in what Wamda called a pre-Series A round, led by Nuwa Capital and STV. A $25 million Series B led by Nuwa Capital followed in December 2024, and in July 2025 a $39 million extension led by Aljazira Capital brought the Series B to $64 million. Calo has said it plans a Saudi Arabian stock market listing by 2027, and Al Rawi told TechCrunch that revenue grew close to 100 percent.
