Social and video platforms pass TV and news sites as the world's main news source
The Reuters Institute's 2026 Digital News Report puts social and video platforms at 54% as a news source, ahead of TV at 52% and news apps and sites at 51%. The gap is small. The direction, and what it means for who controls distribution, is not.
