HUMAIN has unveiled humain-m3 at LEAP in Riyadh, a 428-billion-parameter Arabic-language AI model it says tops frontier systems on Arabic benchmarks. Built on China's MiniMax M3 and further trained on a trillion tokens of Arabic, it targets the AI frontier.
HUMAIN humain-m3 Arabic model has been unveiled at LEAP in Riyadh, and it marks Saudi Arabia's most ambitious attempt yet to put Arabic at the frontier of artificial intelligence. HUMAIN, the Public Investment Fund-backed AI company, announced humain-m3 on 3 September 2026, releasing it in research preview through its HUMAIN Node platform, where developers, researchers and enterprises can test it ahead of a planned open-weight release. As chief executive Tareq Amin put it, Arabic is spoken by hundreds of millions of people yet remains significantly underrepresented at the AI frontier, and humain-m3 is HUMAIN's bet on changing that. The model itself is technically substantial. humain-m3 is a 428-billion-parameter mixture-of-experts model further pre-trained on more than one trillion tokens of Arabic-native content, and HUMAIN says it achieved the highest average score among the frontier models tested across seven public Arabic benchmarks, showing strong Arabic understanding and reasoning. It sits alongside HUMAIN's other Arabic work, including the ALLAM family of models, and is designed to be accessed through HUMAIN Node, the company's channel for advanced models and scaled inference. There is an important nuance worth stating plainly, because HUMAIN has been candid about it. humain-m3 is built on the MiniMax M3 lineage, an open model from the Chinese lab MiniMax, rather than being built entirely from scratch. Amin addressed this directly, insisting this is not about importing a model and putting a HUMAIN label on it, pointing to the trillion-plus tokens of Arabic training that reshape it. Still, the reliance on external architecture reflects a pragmatic, increasingly common approach to sovereign AI, and MiniMax's Hong Kong-listed shares jumped around 10 percent on the news. The strategic significance is clear at LEAP, where sovereign infrastructure and Arabic AI dominate the agenda amid Saudi Arabia's Year of AI. The honest caveat is that benchmark leadership shifts quickly and the Chinese base raises questions about how sovereign the model truly is. But the HUMAIN humain-m3 Arabic model is a genuine step toward competitive Arabic-first AI built in the Kingdom.
