Most of the Gulf venture stories that cross the wire run in one direction, with foreign capital flowing into the region to fund local startups. This one runs the other way, and that inversion is the most interesting thing about it. BY Venture Partners, an Abu Dhabi and Lebanon based fund, has taken part in an oversubscribed 2 million dollar pre-seed round for ChatFeatured, a Toronto based artificial intelligence startup, joining the Canadian firm Storytime Capital, which led the round, and Garage Capital. A Gulf fund writing an early cheque into a North American AI company is a small but telling sign of how regional investors are increasingly hunting for exposure to frontier technology wherever it is being built, rather than waiting for it to arrive at home. The company they backed is riding one of the sharper shifts in how the internet works. ChatFeatured operates in a category being called Answer Engine Optimization, or AEO, which is essentially search engine optimization reinvented for a world where people ask AI assistants what to buy instead of scrolling through a list of blue links. The problem it addresses is genuinely new. Traditional search hands users a set of links and lets them choose, but AI assistants like ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity read the web themselves, write a summary, and typically cite only one or two sources in the process. That creates a fresh kind of risk for brands, because a company can do everything right under the old rules of search and still end up invisible simply because an AI tool never mentioned it. ChatFeatured's platform works backward from the sources that large language models already cite, identifies where a brand is missing and where competitors are winning, then builds a content strategy and actually writes and publishes the material to close those gaps, tracking whether visibility improves as a result. The ambition attached to the new funding is to push this from a monitoring tool toward an autonomous AI agent that acts as an extension of a marketing team, proactively spotting and fixing visibility problems rather than just flagging them on a dashboard. The traction is what made the round oversubscribed, and the numbers explain the investor appetite. ChatFeatured launched only in the first week of January 2026 and, in barely six months, expanded into five countries, the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom and Germany, while growing more than 40 percent month on month. The company originally set out to raise 1.5 million dollars and lifted the round to 2 million after demand exceeded the target. The founding team carries the kind of pedigree early investors like, with chief executive Farris Nasr having spent over a decade in go-to-market roles before teaching himself to code, chief technology officer Nithiiyan Skhanthan having started as an engineer at Tesla before early roles at venture-backed startups, and founding head of growth Ryan Nahas arriving from a senior small-business growth role at Salesforce, having first used ChatFeatured as a paying customer. The capital will fund team expansion, go-to-market acceleration and the build-out of that autonomous agent. The regional dimension is really the point of writing this up from a MENA perspective, because BY Venture Partners is the thread that ties a Toronto AI startup to the Gulf. The fund's participation reflects a broader and increasingly deliberate pattern of UAE and wider Gulf capital seeking early positions in global AI companies, not merely funding the region's own ecosystem. That outbound appetite runs from the sovereign scale, with Abu Dhabi's MGX co-investing in the largest global AI rounds, all the way down to pre-seed cheques like this one, and it reflects a strategic calculation that the returns and the strategic knowledge sit at the frontier of AI, much of which is still being built in North America. For a fund with roots in Abu Dhabi and Beirut, backing a company in a category as new as answer engine optimization is a bet on owning a slice of how AI reshapes marketing globally, and it brings that expertise and those relationships back into the Gulf's orbit. There is a plausible regional angle for the product itself too, since brands across the UAE, Saudi Arabia and the broader Middle East face exactly the same AI-visibility problem as Western ones, and a fund with Gulf networks is well placed to help a company like this expand into the region later. The honest caveats are the ones that attach to any pre-seed deal in a brand-new category. ChatFeatured is barely half a year old, AEO is an unproven space that larger, better-funded competitors and the AI platforms themselves could reshape or absorb overnight, and 2 million dollars buys a short runway in a fast-moving field. But the strategic signal is clearer than the individual bet. Gulf venture money is increasingly comfortable reaching across the world for frontier AI exposure, and a small Abu Dhabi and Lebanon based fund showing u
