Saudi fintech Dhimam closed an undisclosed angel round to build financial guarantee rails for digital trades. Founder Ahmed Al-Abdullatif will spend on product, stack and local partners. Investor names and ticket size were not published.
Financial guarantee is the product Dhimam says an angel cheque will thicken. The Saudi fintech, styled ذِمام in Arabic, closed an angel round in September 2026. Amount and investor names were not published. Founder and chief executive Ahmed Rashid Al-Abdullatif said the money goes into the product, the technical stack and Saudi partnerships. The company wants trust to sit under digital deals so money moves only when both sides have done what they promised. That is the punch. Marketplaces in the Kingdom already clear payments. They do not always hold the bag when a used car is not as described or a freelancer disappears after the first milestone. Dhimam’s model is conditional settlement: parties set value and terms, the sum sits in a guarantee path, release follows confirmation, and a dispute can be opened if execution slips. Documents and proof of delivery live on the same file. The pitch covers B2B, B2C and C2C, from e-commerce and gigs to property, used cars, supply chain and logistics. An API is meant to drop that hold-and-release step into someone else’s checkout. Call it escrow with a local noun. It is not Dhaman, the Kuwait multilateral insurer, and it is not ضمانات, the housing-guarantee vehicle. Dhimam is a startup trying to productise the handshake that still closes a large share of Saudi private deals. Al-Abdullatif’s line is that multi-party digital trades need a clock for when cash is paid, when it is freed, and how a miss is tracked. Angels who will not put their names on the term sheet are buying that clock, not a bank licence. Use of proceeds is three words: product, infrastructure, partnerships. No city list, no volume of held funds, no licensed custody partner appeared in the notes used here. Without a named bank or SAMA window, the guarantee path is a product claim. Saudi e-commerce and classifieds already run chargebacks and platform holds. Dhimam has to be cheaper or clearer than those, or the API never leaves a slide. The MENA angle is the informal ticket. Gulf platforms grew faster than trust infrastructure. Cash on delivery still exists because the buyer does not trust the box. A financial guarantee layer that a souq app can call is more useful than another BNPL brand if it actually freezes riyals. If Dhimam only sits between two individuals on WhatsApp, it is a nicer promise note. If a marketplace with real GMV wires the API, the angel round bought a rail. Caveats belong next to the silent ticket. Angel plus undisclosed is a closed room. Valuation is dark. Holding client money is a regulated act in most serious markets. Dispute rules that are not published will be tested the first time a car and a transfer disagree. No transaction count was offered. If Dhimam names the cheque, a custody partner and a live marketplace, the financial guarantee story holds. If the next note is another founder sentence, the angels bought time. Count released deals that did not bounce, not the round adjective.
