The Saudi technology calendar after LEAP, and the clash in the middle of September

Two of the largest events in the Saudi technology calendar run in Riyadh in overlapping windows next week, eleven days after LEAP closed. Anyone trying to cover the sector, or sell into it, has a scheduling problem.

LEAP 2026 closed in Riyadh on 3 September. Eleven days later the city hosts two more major technology events, and they overlap. Money20/20 Middle East runs from 14 to 16 September at the Riyadh Exhibition and Convention Centre in Malham, the same venue LEAP used, with organisers expecting more than 38,000 attendees, 350 exhibiting brands, over 350 speakers, more than 600 investors and 150 startups. The Global AI Summit, organised by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority, runs from 15 to 17 September at the King Abdulaziz International Conference Center, in its fourth edition, convening ministers, researchers, enterprise AI leaders and startups around trustworthy AI, generative models and national AI strategies. That means 15 and 16 September carry two large technology events in Riyadh at once, in different venues, on subjects that increasingly overlap. Autonomous finance is one of Money20/20's six agenda areas. National AI strategy is the Global AI Summit's core. Any senior figure interested in both has to choose, and any company covering both needs two teams. For the region's technology sector this compression is the notable feature of the autumn rather than a scheduling curiosity. Three major events in seventeen days, two of them at the same venue, produce a concentration of announcements, a concentration of senior attention, and then a long quiet period. Buyers who have taken a fortnight of meetings by 16 September are not taking many more in the weeks after. The practical consequence for anyone selling into this market is that the follow-up window from all three events lands in the same period, and it is short. A vendor that met a Saudi buyer at LEAP is now competing with everyone that buyer met at two further events before anyone has responded to the first. After September the calendar thins considerably. The next large Riyadh technology event is Black Hat MEA, running from 1 to 3 December 2026, which has become the region's principal cybersecurity gathering. Between mid-September and December there is a gap of more than two months, which is when the work from the September cluster either converts or does not. Then LEAP returns from 12 to 15 April 2027, a move back to its spring slot after the 2026 edition ran at the end of August. For exhibitors that is a shorter gap than usual between editions, roughly seven months rather than twelve, and it has consequences worth planning for. Budgets set on an annual cycle may not have a second LEAP in them. Product roadmaps built around an August or September announcement window now need an April one. And any company that made a dated commitment at LEAP 2026 will be asked about it at LEAP 2027 sooner than it might have expected. That shorter gap is the most useful thing in this calendar, and it is worth stating as an accountability point rather than a logistical one. Several of the largest commitments made at LEAP 2026 carry dates that fall before April 2027. AWS said its first Saudi cloud region is on track to open in December 2026. AMD, Cisco and HUMAIN said additional capacity would begin in 2027. The Axelerated Solutions and BIM Capital data centre fund is targeting a first close in the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to Capital Market Authority clearance. By the time LEAP opens in April, each of those will either have happened or not, and the answers will be public. For readers planning attendance, the distinction between these events is worth being clear about. LEAP is horizontal and infrastructure-weighted, drawing chief information officers, technology buyers and the vendor channel. Money20/20 is vertical, drawing banks, payment companies, fintech founders, regulators and the investors around them. The Global AI Summit is policy and research-weighted, drawing government, academic and enterprise AI leadership rather than a purchasing audience. They serve different purposes and attending all three is rarely the right answer for a single company. One caution about totals. Both LEAP and Money20/20 publish headline figures, and the Global AI Summit may produce its own. Those numbers are constructed differently, some of the same companies and commitments will appear across more than one, and adding them together to produce a September figure for Saudi technology would be a category error. TechScoop will report each on its own terms. The dates worth putting in a calendar are short. Money20/20 Middle East, 14 to 16 September, Malham. Global AI Summit, 15 to 17 September, King Abdulaziz International Conference Center. Black Hat MEA, 1 to 3 December, Riyadh. LEAP, 12 to 15 April 2027, Riyadh.
