About Zamil
Zamil Group Holding Company is a family-owned investment holding company based in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia, with offices in Riyadh and Manama. Its website lists investments in building materials, manufacturing, marine services, petrochemicals, trade and services, real estate services and investment, held through listed companies, joint ventures and wholly owned group companies. Its portfolio page names 28 entries, including Zamil Industrial and Sipchem.
The group traces its origins to Abdullah Al-Hamad Al Zamil, who was born in Unaizah in 1897 and began trading in Bahrain in the 1920s. Zamil.com and Forbes Middle East date the founding to 1920. The business moved into real estate in 1940 and later into Al Khobar.
Industrial companies followed. Zamil Air Conditioners was founded in 1974 under a licence from Fedders, Zamil Steel in 1976, Zamil Offshore Services in 1977 and Zamil Plastics in 1980. Zamil Industrial Investment became a Saudi joint-stock company in 1998 and listed on the Saudi stock exchange in 2002, the first family company to do so. Sipchem was founded in 1999 and listed in 2006, and Sahara Petrochemicals and Sipchem merged in 2019.
Khalid AlZamil is chairman, according to Forbes Middle East's 2024 and 2025 lists of the top 100 Arab family businesses, which ranked the group 25th in both years. A family business history says he became group chief executive in 2013 and that the parent company is fully family owned, and Forbes reported about 12,000 employees in 2021.
Forbes Middle East reported that in February 2024 the Public Investment Fund bought 40 percent of Zamil Offshore Services Company and Zamil Plastic Industries partnered with GROHE on a sanitary products factory in Saudi Arabia. In November 2024 the group agreed a joint venture with Wolffkran Holding to buy 50 percent of Wolffkran for Equipment and to build Saudi Arabia's first integrated tower crane plant, and in January 2025 a consortium led by the Arab Energy Fund that included Zamil acquired Metito Utilities. TechScoop reported in September 2026 that the Zamil and Kanoo groups took part in Tarabut's USD 50 million round.
