About Yoco
Yoco is a South African payments and business software company that provides card machines, point-of-sale software, online payments and business funding to small and medium-sized businesses. It was founded in Cape Town by four friends, Katlego Maphai, Carl Wazen, Bradley Wattrus and Lungisa Matshoba. TechCrunch reported in 2021 that the company launched in 2013 and had offices in Cape Town and Amsterdam, and Yoco's own history page records its first card payment in 2014.
Carsten Höltkemeyer is Chief Executive Officer, according to Yoco's about page, which was updated in 2026. Carl Wazen is Chief Business Officer, Lungisa Matshoba is Chief Product and Technology Officer and Bradley Wattrus is Chief Financial Officer. Maphai was chief executive at the time of the 2021 funding round.
The product range includes the Khumo 2 and Khumo Print 2 card machines, Tap to Pay on iPhone, the Yoco Counter point-of-sale system for stock, staff and sales, payment links, invoices and website checkouts, Yoco Capital, which advances funding that is repaid as a share of sales, and Yoco Savings. Yoco says Yoco Capital has advanced R6.8 billion to more than 40,000 businesses.
The company's history page lists point of sale being added in 2017, Yoco Capital launching in 2018 and online payments launching in 2020. In 2026 it acquired Dyner, which it describes as its first acquisition, launched Yoco Savings and cut its card rates.
Yoco raised a 16 million US dollar Series B in 2018, according to TechCrunch. On 27 July 2021 it announced an 83 million US dollar Series C led by Dragoneer Investment Group, with Breyer Capital, HOF Capital, The Raba Partnership, 4DX Ventures and TO Ventures joining and Partech, Velocity Capital Fintech Ventures, Orange Ventures and Quona Capital participating as existing investors. TechCrunch put total funding at 107 million US dollars at that point.
Yoco states that more than 250,000 businesses took payments on its platform in the past year, that it processed R55 billion in that period and R240 billion since 2014, and that monthly card volume reached R5.3 billion in December 2025.
