Yellow Door Energy is a Dubai headquartered sustainable energy infrastructure company founded in 2015 by Jeremy Crane, a Canadian engineer with prior experience building solar projects in Canada and wind farms in the United States, that operates as the leading distributed solar and energy storage developer for commercial and industrial customers across the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia. The company follows a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer model in which it finances, designs, constructs, commissions, operates, and maintains solar photovoltaic rooftop, ground-mount, carport, and battery energy storage systems for its clients for contract periods of 10 to 20 years under solar lease or power purchase agreement structures, requiring zero upfront capital from customers who simply pay a monthly solar bill that is lower than their existing utility costs. Yellow Door Energy was co-founded with Adenium Energy Capital as its initial backer in 2015, launched operations first in the UAE and Jordan, and has since expanded across Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, Pakistan, South Africa, Qatar, and Turkey, targeting a total portfolio of over 1 gigawatt of distributed solar capacity with a project value exceeding 1 billion dollars. The company has generated more than 1.1 terawatt-hours of clean electricity from its operating projects and reduced carbon emissions by over 307,000 metric tons across a client portfolio that includes Carrefour, Nestle, Unilever, Chalhoub Group, PureHealth, Tamimi Markets, Foulath Holding, GWC, Dubai Investments, and hundreds of other enterprises, winning multiple Middle East Solar Industry Association awards. In October 2022, Actis, the global sustainable infrastructure private equity investor, became the majority and controlling shareholder of Yellow Door Energy through a 400 million dollar equity raise that also enabled the exit of early investors, with IFC, Mitsui, and APICORP retaining and increasing their equity stakes. The company celebrated its first decade in 2025, reporting more than 1 billion kilowatt-hours of clean energy generated.
