About WHOOP
WHOOP is a Boston-based wearable health and performance company. It was founded in 2012 by Will Ahmed, then a Harvard student-athlete, together with John Capodilupo and Aurelian Nicolae, and was incubated at the Harvard Innovation Lab. Its first device launched in 2015. The current range includes the WHOOP 5.0 and the WHOOP MG, a model with an FDA-cleared ECG sensor.
The wristband tracks physiological signals such as heart rate variability, sleep, recovery and respiratory patterns, and members receive AI-driven insights and coaching. WHOOP earns recurring revenue from subscriptions rather than one-time hardware sales, and the device stops tracking without an active membership. Its users include professional athletes, military personnel and health-conscious consumers.
On 31 March 2026 WHOOP announced a USD 575 million Series G at a valuation of USD 10.1 billion, compared with USD 3.6 billion after its 2021 round. Collaborative Fund led. Participants included 2PointZero Group, the Qatar Investment Authority, Mubadala Investment Company, Abbott, Mayo Clinic, Macquarie Capital, IVP, Foundry Group, Glade Brook and Bullhound Capital. Individual investors included Cristiano Ronaldo, LeBron James, Rory McIlroy, Virgil van Dijk, Reggie Miller, Niall Horan and Karen Wazen. Reports put lifetime funding at roughly USD 900 million. Ahmed told Yahoo Finance the company does not expect another private round, with an IPO as the next step; no filing has been reported.
The company says it exited 2025 with a bookings run rate of USD 1.1 billion, with 2025 bookings up 103 percent, reached positive cash flow, and has more than 2.5 million members. Proceeds are intended for expansion in the US, Europe, the GCC, Latin America and Asia, and more than 600 new roles in 2026.
The Gulf is a stated priority. WHOOP is the official health and performance wearable of Al Nassr Football Club and UAE Team Emirates-XRG, and has partnerships with the Doha Marathon and the Dubai Fitness Challenge. WAM reported in October 2026 that WHOOP launched an Arabic-language app with a GCC campaign, that GCC membership was up more than 75 percent year on year, and that WHOOP Qatar will open its first international performance research and development facility outside Boston later this year. It also has a dedicated UAE office and a partnership with Unilabs in the UAE linking biomarker testing to the platform.
