About Unity
Unity Software Inc. develops a real-time 3D engine and development platform for building games and other interactive content, and sells advertising and monetisation tools to app developers. Its annual report splits the business into Create Solutions, which covers the Unity engine and cloud services, and Grow Solutions, which covers Unity Ads, a mediation platform, the Unity Ad Network, Supersonic game publishing and in-app purchase tools. The company is headquartered at 116 New Montgomery Street in San Francisco and its shares trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker U.
Wikipedia reports that the company was founded in Copenhagen in 2004 as Over the Edge by David Helgason, Nicholas Francis and Joachim Ante, and renamed Unity Technologies in 2007. Its website lists Matthew Bromberg as chief executive and president, James Whitehurst as chair of the board, Jarrod Yahes as chief financial officer and Alex Blum as chief operating officer.
Unity's website says the engine deploys to more than 25 platforms, that over 1.3 million people use the Unity Editor each month, and that more than 70 percent of the top 1,000 mobile games are made with Unity. At the end of 2025 it had 4,412 full-time employees in 25 offices across 16 countries, about 77 percent of them outside the United States, with a significant number in Israel.
Wikipedia reports that Unity listed on the New York Stock Exchange in September 2020 and completed its merger with ironSource, an all-stock deal valued at $4.4 billion, in November 2022. The annual report says Unity cut its workforce by about 25 percent in 2024, reduced it further in 2025 and is winding down some non-strategic businesses.
Unity reported 2025 revenue of $1,849.6 million, a GAAP net loss of $401.5 million, adjusted EBITDA of $408.8 million and free cash flow of $403.9 million, in its release of February 11, 2026. The annual report attributes the revenue increase to moving the Unity Ad Network onto a new machine learning model called Unity Vector. It issued about $690 million of convertible notes due 2030 in February 2025.
