About The Points Guy

The Points Guy, known as TPG, is a travel media publisher that covers airline miles, hotel points, loyalty programs and credit cards. Its website carries daily news, card reviews and guides on earning and redeeming points. The publisher is listed as The Points Guy, LLC, and the site describes TPG as a Red Ventures company. TPG's about page says it has offices in New York City, Charlotte and the United Kingdom.

Brian Kelly launched TPG as a personal website in 2010, and Wikipedia reports that he began earning affiliate revenue in February 2011. The company's site still lists him as TPG founder. Nick Ewen is editor-in-chief; he began writing for TPG in 2012 and joined the editorial team full time in 2018. Ben Mutzabaugh is managing editor, and Summer Hull and Nicky Kelvin are senior directors of content.

TPG's products include the TPG Daily newsletter, points valuations, an award versus cash calculator, the CardMatch tool, credit card reviews and the annual TPG Awards show. Wikipedia reports a mobile app launched in September 2021 that tracks points and miles across loyalty programs. The site says it earns commissions on credit card, hotel, cruise and product referrals and runs paid sponsorships with destinations, travel brands and financial services providers. As of October 2026 its about page lists 2.1 million Instagram followers, 813,500 TikTok followers, 607,000 followers on X and a Facebook group, TPG Lounge, with 168,000 members.

Wikipedia reports that Bankrate acquired the brand in 2012 and that between 2012 and 2017 TPG acquired Million Mile Secrets, Mommy Points and Travel Is Free. Red Ventures acquired Bankrate, which included TPG, in a deal announced on 3 July 2017 for 1.24 billion dollars in cash. Wikipedia places TPG's headquarters in New York City and puts its headcount at around 150 as of 2025.

TechScoop reported in July 2026 that Kelly was among the investors in the 10 million dollar seed round of Hint, a home-maintenance company, led by Slow Ventures.
