About TCV
TCV, formerly known as Technology Crossover Ventures, is a growth equity firm that invests in technology companies. Its website says it writes equity investments of 10 million to 500 million US dollars in companies at pivotal points in their growth, and that its portfolio spans five continents. It lists offices in Menlo Park, New York and London.
The firm was founded in 1995 by Jay Hoag and Rick Kimball. Hoag is Founding General Partner, sits on the Executive Committee and chairs the Investment Committee. Kimball is Founding General Partner and Senior Advisor. Erez Elisha, who joined in 2019, is General Partner and Chief Financial Officer. John Doran, a General Partner and Executive Committee member, joined in 2012 and helped open the London office. The team page lists 85 people.
As of 30 June 2026, TCV reports more than 350 technology investments, 82 initial public offerings and 78 strategic exits. Companies featured on its website include ByteDance, Clio, Mercury, Netflix, Nubank and onX. A 2021 announcement by its law firm Simpson Thacher also named Airbnb, Facebook, Spotify, Splunk and Zillow among its past investments.
TCV closed its tenth fund at 3 billion US dollars, announced in early 2019, and its eleventh fund at 4 billion dollars, announced on 27 January 2021, which Simpson Thacher described as the largest fund the firm had raised. Both funds target consumer internet, software and IT infrastructure companies.
The firm reports assets under management of 23 billion dollars as of 30 June 2026. TechScoop reported in June 2026 that TCV was among the investors in a funding round for the Finnish satellite company ICEYE, alongside the Qatar Investment Authority, in a round worth more than 1 billion euros, of which 450 million euros was new primary capital led by General Atlantic. TCV's website lists ICEYE under its portfolio news. None of the pages read names a TCV office in the Middle East.
