About Tawal

TAWAL, formally the Telecommunication Towers Company, is a Saudi Arabian company that builds, maintains and operates telecom towers and related infrastructure, including in-building systems and small cells, which it leases mainly to mobile network operators. It is based in Riyadh. Its CEO said in 2026 that it manages about 30,000 towers across five markets, around 24,000 of them in Saudi Arabia, and that its direct customers include stc, Mobily and Zain.

stc announced in December 2018 that it would create TAWAL as a subsidiary, and the company launched on 1 April 2019 after receiving its licence from the Communications and Information Technology Commission. Mohammed Alhakbani, previously an stc vice president for enterprise sales, became chief executive in January 2020. Its board approved an international expansion strategy in 2020, and it entered Pakistan by acquiring Awal Telecom.

In July 2023 TAWAL announced the purchase of United Group's tower business in Bulgaria, Croatia and Slovenia, covering more than 4,800 sites. TechScoop reported the price as 1.22 billion euros. In 2025 it named Saudi Entertainment Ventures, OneWeb and Cenomi Centers among more than 15 agreements for services such as indoor coverage, and it has signed agreements with Lenovo on edge computing and with Huawei.

stc agreed in April 2024 to sell 51 percent of TAWAL to the Public Investment Fund. The deal closed in February 2025 for SAR 8.9 billion, and TAWAL was combined with Golden Lattice Investment Company in a new entity. After the transaction the Public Investment Fund held 54.38 percent, stc 43.06 percent, and two minority holders 1.28 percent each. Enterprise reported valuations, excluding cash and debt, of SAR 22 billion for TAWAL and SAR 3 billion for Golden Lattice. In 2023 its CEO said TAWAL did not disclose financial figures because stc consolidated its results.

In July 2026 TechScoop reported, citing Semafor, that TAWAL was in talks to buy more than 10,000 towers from Mobily. The report was unconfirmed. In a 2026 Argaam interview the CEO said TAWAL had built more than 1,000 towers in the previous year and carried out more than 12,000 upgrades.
