About Span Health
Span Health was a United States health coaching company that combined data from wearable devices with one-to-one coaching to help members improve sleep, nutrition and exercise. Members were matched with a health performance coach backed by a longevity physician and connected devices and other biomarker sources through the Span app. They then ran personalised experiments, and coaches checked in every two weeks to turn the ones that worked into habits. The company's site listed Eight Sleep, Apple Health, Peloton, Levels, 23andMe and Garmin among the services members could connect, and said its advisers came from Stanford, Duke and Harvard.
Patrick Samy, Adam Bataineh and Rachel Lett started Span together. Samy was chief executive and Bataineh, a medical doctor, was chief medical officer. In a post on Span's website, Samy described the idea as growing out of his own efforts to improve his health with a wearable and a continuous glucose monitor, with Bataineh advising him. CB Insights lists the company as founded in 2019 and based in California, while the site profile held by TechScoop gives 2021, so the year is left unrecorded here.
In January 2022 the founders met Matteo Franceschetti, co-founder and chief executive of the sleep technology company Eight Sleep, who soon proposed combining the companies. Eight Sleep announced on 30 March 2022 that it had acquired Span Health, with the price undisclosed, to add personalised health coaching to its sleep products. Samy and Bataineh joined Eight Sleep's product team. Span said its coaching service, sessions and app would be discontinued, that members would not be charged from 31 March, and that app access would continue for 30 more days before accounts and data were deleted. Sleep and health coaching was to continue through Eight Sleep.
No funding round, investor list or valuation for Span Health was found in the sources read. A TechScoop article of May 2026 mentions Span as an earlier venture of Bataineh, who went on to found the preventive healthcare company Madeed.
