About Ray

Ray is a Dubai-based company that runs a network of powerbank rental stations in the United Arab Emirates. It calls itself the region's first Tap to Pay charging network and also trades as Stingray. Customers start a rental by tapping a bank card, Apple Pay or Google Pay at a station, without an app or registration, or by scanning a QR code with the app, and can return the powerbank to any station in the network. Stations are placed in hotels, restaurants, cafés, universities, service centres, hospitals and transport hubs.

The company was started in Dubai in April 2025 by Igor Kosolap, its chief executive, with co-founder and chief product officer Roman Averianov, and launched its first UAE network in November 2025. Its website says Kosolap spent more than ten years at the Russian telecom operator MTS, where he led products and partnerships, and that Averianov founded GetEnergy, an early Russian powerbank-sharing company.

In April 2026 Ray announced a $1.2 million seed round raised mainly from private investors, including Meirambek Abelkasov and Serik Uspanov, co-founders of the Kazakh kick-scooter sharing company JET. Entrepreneur Middle East and Wamda reported that the money would fund new equipment, technology upgrades and an expansion across the UAE and the GCC, with a target of 2,000 UAE locations by the end of 2026. The company says its stations use integrated international payment acquiring and global IoT connectivity covering more than 170 countries.

In May 2026 Ray took over the assets of JetCharge, a competing Dubai service with more than 100 locations, including its hardware, venue contracts and team. The combined network passed 250 locations in the UAE, and JetCharge's general director Talgat Rakhimgaliyev joined Ray as chief operating officer.

Ray's website now lists more than 400 locations in the UAE. It says a holding company, Ray Global, was set up in the Abu Dhabi Global Market in 2026 for international expansion. The service is live in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
