About Osler Diagnostics
Osler Diagnostics is a UK medical diagnostics company headquartered in Oxford. It is developing the Osler Origin, a portable point-of-care instrument that the company describes as a lab in your hand and a portable lab, intended to give laboratory-quality blood test results in settings such as emergency departments, doctors' offices and retail pharmacies. The technology combines microfluidic sample preparation with electrochemical biosensing, with a sample-addition method called HemaTap. Oxford Science Enterprises, an investor, says the first application is cardiac care.
The company was formed in 2017 out of the University of Oxford, building on decades of research from the department that invented the portable electrochemical blood glucose sensor. Silicon Canals named Connor Campbell, Jason Davis and Paulo R. Bueno as founders. Campbell was chief executive until the end of 2025 and stayed on the board as a non-executive director. The company reported more than 100 staff in November 2022 and about 150 in January 2026.
On 21 January 2026 Osler appointed John Sperzel as chief executive. He has over 30 years of experience in point-of-care diagnostics, was chief executive of Chembio Diagnostics and Accriva Diagnostics, and was president of Axis-Shield before its acquisition by Abbott. Immediately before Osler he led Vivid Dx, an Oxford-based diagnostics company. Paul Dixon is chief financial officer and David Edington is founding chief technology officer. The board is chaired by David Berry, a managing partner at Averin.
Osler announced an 85 million dollar Series C on 7 November 2022. M&G Investments joined as a strategic investor, and existing investors Oxford Science Enterprises, Braavos Investment Advisers and Lansdowne Partners took part. The company said the money would advance the Osler Origin through regulatory activities toward market launch. Osler said in January 2026 that Campbell's tenure as chief executive included raising more than 145 million pounds.
In June 2026 the University of Birmingham's Precision Health Technologies Accelerator announced a partnership with Osler to support development of the Osler Origin through a usability study. TechScoop's July 2026 coverage describes the company as making rapid portable diagnostic devices, held through Oxford Science Enterprises.
