About Ooredoo Qatar
Ooredoo Qatar is the domestic telecommunications business of Ooredoo Q.P.S.C., the Doha-headquartered group whose shares trade on the Qatar Stock Exchange. It sells postpaid and prepaid mobile plans, fibre home internet and TV, devices and enterprise ICT services, and runs the Ooredoo Money service.
The group was set up by the Qatari state in 1987 as the Qatar Public Telecommunications Corporation, became Qatar Telecom (Qtel) in 1998 when it was partly opened to private investors, and adopted the Ooredoo name in 2013, according to Wikipedia. Sheikh Ali bin Jabor bin Mohammad Al Thani has been chief executive since January 2023, having previously served as the group's chief legal, regulatory and governance officer. Sheikh Faisal bin Thani Al Thani chairs the group and Aziz Aluthman Fakhroo is group chief executive.
Ooredoo says it launched the world's first 5G network in 2018 and later deployed Qatar's first 5G standalone core. On 15 October 2026 it launched what it calls Qatar's first 5G+ network, built on 5G Standalone and 5G Advanced and initially offered for mobile broadband in covered areas.
In July 2025 Ooredoo became an NVIDIA Cloud Partner and began offering AI cloud services on NVIDIA Hopper GPUs, hosted in local data centres operated by Syntys. In October 2026 it signed a strategic agreement with McKinsey and Company to support its digital and AI transformation programme. Its management systems for information security, business continuity, service management, quality, environment and occupational health and safety are certified by Bureau Veritas, according to certificates published on its website.
For 2025 Ooredoo Qatar reported revenue of QR7.24 billion, EBITDA of QR3.76 billion and about 3 million customers, Qatar Tribune reported. The group reported revenue of QR24.6 billion and net profit of about QR3.9 billion for the year. In September 2026 it won the Telecom AI Visionary Award at the Google Cloud Doha Summit.
