About Oman Investment Authority
The Oman Investment Authority (OIA) is the Sultanate of Oman's sovereign wealth fund, with its headquarters in Al Khuwair, Muscat. It was established by Royal Decree 61/2020, issued on 4 June 2020, as a body with legal personality and financial and administrative independence that reports to the Council of Ministers.
The decree transferred to the authority the assets, investments and staff of the State General Reserve Fund and the Oman Investment Fund, along with the Ministry of Finance's Directorate General of Investments, and moved ownership of government companies from the ministry to the OIA, except Petroleum Development Oman and contributions to international organisations. The Ministry of Finance's May 2026 report on the authority's results names a president of the authority and the Minister of Finance as chairman of its board.
The authority manages a domestic National Development Portfolio of more than 160 companies and assets, valued at about OMR 13.09 billion at the end of 2025, and an international Generations Portfolio of OMR 8.57 billion that holds 210 investment funds. It also runs Future Fund Oman, an OMR 2 billion initiative to attract private and foreign investment and support small and medium-sized enterprises and startups. By the end of 2025 that fund had approved 186 projects, and it places capital through fund managers such as Cyfr Capital.
For 2025 the OIA reported profits of OMR 2.9 billion, a 14.6% return and total assets of about OMR 23 billion, with investments in 52 countries and nearly two-thirds of them in Oman. It reported a five-year average return of 10.4%, a contribution of OMR 800 million to the state budget, half of it allocated to Future Fund Oman, and a staff of 438 with 91% Omanisation.
The OIA said it had completed 24 divestments since launching its programme in 2022, generating more than OMR 2.8 billion, including the IPO of a 20% stake in Asyad Shipping Company. In July 2026 it agreed with Jordan's Social Security Investment Fund to set up an equally owned investment company with capital of OMR 38.5 million, about $100 million.
