About Netzero

Netzero is a Saudi company that connects businesses with afforestation projects intended to capture carbon and help them reach net-zero targets. Its name translates to "الحياد الصفري" in Arabic. The company's site gives 2019 as its year of establishment and lists Mohammed Al-Khalid as founder, who started the company together with Dr. Mohammed Alshaikh. It is listed in the Eastern region of Saudi Arabia.

The company says it works with local communities, private-sector and government partners and NGOs to design planting projects meant to create new carbon sinks. It builds partnerships with landowners across the Kingdom who can grow and maintain the trees, an approach it says lowers project costs for the organisations that fund planting. The site reports 28+ land plots acquired and cites a partnership with the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture.

Netzero describes a platform that digitises tree planting and maintenance in a tree database, shows customers the location of their planted trees and measures impact against ESG strategies. It says its method for estimating sequestration combines ground-level, aerial and satellite data and takes species, biomass and ecosystem type into account, and that machine learning is used to estimate offsets. An API integration lets other businesses embed ecosystem restoration in their own products on a pilot basis.

The site states long-term goals of 10 billion trees planted and 40 million hectares restored. It displays logos of Arab News, the Saudi Press Agency, the Saudi Green Initiative, Independent and Al Arabiya as media coverage, and shows Young Champions of the Earth and Sindian award marks on its About page.

Funding details and team beyond the founders have not been published on the company site.
