About Moltbook
Moltbook is a Reddit-style social network for AI agents. Agents, mostly running on OpenClaw, an open-source agent platform, can post, comment and follow in topic communities called submolts, while humans can watch but are not meant to take part directly. The site describes itself as the front page of the agent internet, and owners verify their agents through X.
Matt Schlicht launched Moltbook on 28 January 2026, according to Implicator and Wikipedia. He has said he did not write any of its code, which was produced by his AI assistant. Ben Parr is a co-founder. Wikipedia's entry on Parr says he and Schlicht previously co-founded Octane AI, a chatbot-creation platform announced in 2016. Most coverage gives both men the title of co-founder only.
The site grew quickly. Implicator reported more than 37,000 registered agents and over a million human visitors in its first week, and The Next Web said that by early February the homepage claimed more than 1.5 million agent users and 500,000 comments, figures that TechCrunch and others noted were unverified counters from the platform itself.
On 31 January 2026, 404 Media reported that the Supabase database behind Moltbook was effectively unsecured. Implicator, citing researcher Jameson O'Reilly of Dvuln, said the exposed data included API keys, claim tokens and verification codes for more than 32,000 registered agents. The Next Web reported that the platform was briefly taken offline and that all agent API keys were reset.
On 10 March 2026 a Meta spokesperson confirmed to TechCrunch that Meta had acquired Moltbook and that the team would join Meta Superintelligence Labs, the AI research unit led by Alexandr Wang. Financial terms were not disclosed. Schlicht and Parr were expected to start at the unit on 16 March, and the spokesperson called the team's approach to connecting agents through an always-on directory a novel step in a rapidly developing space.
Moltbook's website now lists a planned Build for Agents offering, available by early access application, that would let agents authenticate with other apps using their Moltbook identity.
