About MGX Investment Management

MGX is an Abu Dhabi investment company dedicated to artificial intelligence. It was announced in March 2024 by the emirate's Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology Council, with the sovereign investor Mubadala and the AI group G42 as founding partners. It is chaired by Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE's national security adviser and Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi. Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, chief executive of Mubadala, is vice chairman, and Ahmed Yahia Al Idrissi serves as chief executive and managing director. The board has also included Jassem Mohamed Bu Ataba Al Zaabi, Peng Xiao and Martin Edelman, according to Abu Dhabi government reports of its December 2025 meeting.

At launch, people familiar with the matter said MGX could surpass USD 100 billion in assets under management within a few years, and that its first deals would be funded by new capital from the Abu Dhabi government. TechScoop describes it as operating less like a traditional sovereign fund and more like a global asset manager that raises outside capital. MGX has since raised close to USD 50 billion from regional and global investors for a single AI fund, including regional sovereign wealth funds, global pension funds and large institutional investors. A second TechScoop article puts the first fund's close at USD 49 billion, above its original target. The firm is already deploying the money and has a stated target of surpassing USD 100 billion in total assets under management.

Its strategy spans the whole AI stack in three areas: AI infrastructure such as data centres and connectivity, semiconductors, and AI core technologies and applications including models, software and robotics. It holds stakes across leading model labs including OpenAI, xAI and Anthropic, and TechScoop reports it co-led Anthropic's large funding rounds.

In October 2025 a consortium of the AI Infrastructure Partnership, MGX and BlackRock's Global Infrastructure Partners agreed to buy Aligned Data Centers from Macquarie Asset Management at a valuation of about USD 40 billion, one of the largest data-centre transactions on record. The AI Infrastructure Partnership was formed by BlackRock, GIP, MGX, Microsoft and Nvidia. Reports dated July 2026 say the acquisition has closed, with the buyers committing a further USD 5 billion in growth capital. MGX was also part of the Stargate infrastructure initiative alongside OpenAI, SoftBank and Oracle, took part in the US TikTok ownership restructuring, and is working on an AI data centre campus in France.

At home, Abu Dhabi is developing Stargate UAE, a planned 5-gigawatt AI data-centre campus with G42, OpenAI, Oracle, Nvidia, Cisco and SoftBank, with a first phase targeted for 2026. TechScoop frames MGX as Abu Dhabi's counterpart to Saudi Arabia's HUMAIN, and notes caveats including dependence on US chip export policy and warnings of an AI investment bubble.
