About IZI
IZI is a collaborative video application that combines recordings made by multiple people at the same event. A group organiser creates a shared recording session and sends a link to other participants. Their phone footage is uploaded and synchronised in the cloud, producing an automatically edited video assembled from the group's different viewpoints.
The product grew from an idea by Joan Llobera and Gemma Solana at a Barcelona primary school: combining recordings of a children's musical performance with better-quality sound. That use case developed into an application for concerts, celebrations and other shared occasions. The organiser controls the beginning and end of the group video, while individual participants can capture shorter clips during the session. The system can also combine recordings with audio from a mixing desk on supported phones.
IZI is operated by La Rumba de Barcelona, based in Barcelona, Spain. Its team includes Llobera as chief technology officer and Solana as chief product officer. The product offers automatic editing and group participation rather than requiring one participant to manually collect, align and cut all of the separate recordings after an event.
