About Ineffable Intelligence
Ineffable Intelligence is a British AI lab founded in late 2025 by David Silver, a former Google DeepMind researcher. It came out of stealth on 27 April 2026 with a USD 1.1 billion seed round at a USD 5.1 billion valuation, which TechScoop describes as Europe's largest seed round on record. At the time of the announcement the company had no product and no revenue.
Silver spent more than a decade at DeepMind, where he led the reinforcement learning team and was a central figure behind AlphaGo, AlphaZero, AlphaFold and AlphaProof. That record is what TechScoop identifies as the foundation of the fundraising.
The company's thesis challenges the dominant approach to frontier AI, in which models are trained on large volumes of human-generated text, code and images. Silver's bet, as reported, is that this approach has a ceiling and that superintelligence will come from systems that discover knowledge from their own experience. Ineffable calls such a system a superlearner: an AI that learns through reinforcement, by testing actions, receiving feedback and improving over time, with the aim of rediscovering and then surpassing human achievements in science, mathematics, language and technology.
The seed round was co-led by Sequoia Capital and Lightspeed Venture Partners. Participants included Nvidia, Google, DST Global, Index Ventures, the UK's Sovereign AI Fund and the British Business Bank, along with other institutional and strategic investors that the article does not name.
Silver has also pledged to donate 100 percent of his personal equity proceeds from Ineffable to high-impact charities through Founders Pledge. The article describes this as the largest commitment in that organization's history.
TechScoop places the company in a cluster of heavily funded labs started by star researchers who left large technology firms, citing AMI Labs (co-founded by Yann LeCun, USD 1.03 billion in March 2026), Safe Superintelligence (USD 2 billion at a USD 32 billion valuation) and Recursive Superintelligence (reportedly USD 500 million). For the MENA region, the article notes that Gulf entities such as Saudi Arabia's Humain and the UAE's G42 are building relationships across the frontier lab ecosystem and that London offers a natural entry point for Gulf sovereign capital. The article does not state how the proceeds will be allocated.
