About Future Fund Oman
Future Fund Oman is a state investment fund run by the Oman Investment Authority, the country's sovereign wealth fund. According to the Ministry of Finance, the authority launched it on 17 January 2024. It is governed and managed by the authority and is its third portfolio, alongside the National Development and Generations portfolios. Its capital is 2 billion Omani rials, to be deployed over five years at 400 million rials a year.
The fund's stated purpose is to attract foreign investment and to invest in local small and medium-sized enterprises. It offers financing as a capital partner or lender, either through direct financing at market cost or through capital partnerships, and projects are led by the private sector. Its objectives include stimulating economic growth, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises and stimulating Oman's venture investment system. It gives priority to projects that create jobs and use Omani raw materials.
Ninety percent of the capital is allocated to new or existing projects. Of the remaining ten percent, seven percent goes to small and medium-sized enterprises and three percent to startups. A project can receive up to 100 million rials, and no more than 40 percent of its capital may sit in one partnership. The fund targets eight sectors: tourism, industry and production, green energy, information and communications technology, ports and logistics, mining, fisheries and agriculture.
An investment committee of five members drawn from the authority, the Ministry of Finance and independent bodies approves new investments, follow-on investments and exits. An advisory committee supervises investments in small companies and emerging companies. Tanmia, ITHCA Group, Omantel and Cyfr Capital manage investments in small companies and startups, and applications are made through the fund's platform.
TechScoop reported in April 2026 that a 10 million dollar round for the Omani food-service technology company FASCANO included a strategic partnership with the fund, and that the fund co-led an earlier round with Cyfr Capital in 2024.
In July 2026 Fathi bin Abdullah Al Balushi was named chief executive of the fund, according to StrongYes.
