About Federal Authority for Artificial Intelligence and Data
The Federal Authority for Artificial Intelligence and Data is a United Arab Emirates federal body announced in June 2026 as a single national umbrella for artificial intelligence, data and digital government. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced it, and Gulf News reported on 14 June 2026 that it reports directly to the UAE Cabinet. Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, heads it.
The authority combines three existing bodies: the UAE's Artificial Intelligence Office, the Information and Digital Government Sector at the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority, and the Emirates Data Office. TechScoop's report of 15 June 2026 names the first of these as the Office of Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications.
Gulf News listed its functions as setting the national AI strategy and directing its development, proposing federal policies, legislation and strategies, aligning digital initiatives between federal and local levels, raising the digital economy's contribution to GDP, managing the quality, availability and sharing of government data, operating AI-powered national data platforms, overseeing integrated digital services, setting standards for data, AI and digital transformation, building national capabilities through research and advisory work, and strengthening international partnerships. It will also support cybersecurity efforts and the management of government information security.
