About Fatora

Fatora is an online platform for selling and collecting payments, built for entrepreneurs, independent business owners and small and medium-sized businesses, mainly in Qatar. It is available in Arabic and English, with apps for iOS and Android, and its website says it is a project of MaktApp, the Doha software company that also builds other business tools.

Fatora was started in 2018 by Waleed Al Yafei and Saleh Al Mansouri. The company says it launched a cashier and point-of-sale service in 2019 and more advanced e-commerce services in 2021, after demand rose during the COVID-19 pandemic. MaktApp joined the Qatar Science and Technology Park in 2016, and Fatora's site lists the park as having accredited it.

The platform covers an online store, a payment gateway, invoices, payment links and a link-in-bio page. The invoicing tool handles one-time, recurring and instalment invoices, and payment links can be sent by WhatsApp, email or SMS. The gateway connects to providers that the site names as TAP and Stripe, among others. Fatora also offers artificial intelligence tools for preparing images and marketing text, an agency programme, an affiliate programme and a developer API. A free plan includes six products in the online store, and a paid plan is listed at nine US dollars a month billed annually. Its site states that more than 300,000 merchants use it and names customers such as Al-Tawash Oud, Qatar Triathlon, Sukoon Events, Sun Shine Qatar, Qatar Reads and Spring Flowers.

Fatora's security page states that it holds PCI-DSS certification, encrypts data at rest with AES-256, uses tokenisation so that full card details are not stored on its servers, and works with bank payment gateways approved by the Qatar Central Bank.

On 27 April 2026 Vodafone Qatar announced that it had completed the acquisition of Maktapp through its subsidiary Infinity Fintech Ventures. Vodafone Qatar's interim financial statements for the six months to 30 June 2026 say the acquired company manages the Fatora digital platform, that the shares were bought under an agreement dated 21 April 2026, and that total consideration was QR 2.1 million.
