About Egyptian Company for Cosmetics

The Egyptian Company for Cosmetics, known as ECC, is a contract manufacturer of personal care, cosmetics and cosmeceutical products for business customers. Its services include research and development, product registration, toll manufacturing, private labelling, packaging solutions, and export and logistics support. It is based in Nasr City, Cairo.

ECC's website says the company began in 1981 as a small laboratory producing cosmetic oils and soap, founded by Dr. Salah El Housseiny, and that the second generation, led by Dr. Mohamed Salah, later took over. It says ECC opened several plants from 2015 and began selling internationally. A 2022 Wamda article instead describes Mohamed Salah, as chief executive, and Ahmed Abo El Hamail, as vice chairman, as ECC's co-founders; the sources differ on who founded the company.

The website says more than 500 brands trust ECC, that it has worked with more than 580 clients and delivered more than 60,000 products. It names Unilever International in a client testimonial and lists Hair Addict, Parkville and Arab Doctors among client brands. ECC lists ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 22000 and ISO 22716 certificates on its website.

In September 2022 ECC acquired a majority stake in Source Beauty, an Egyptian online beauty marketplace founded in 2018 by Lydia Schoonderbeek, which had over 85 brands and about 60,000 users. ECC's release put the deal at USD 5 million through a capital increase, Daily News Egypt described a commitment of up to USD 5 million, and Wamda said the price was not disclosed. Schoonderbeek stayed on as Source Beauty's chief executive and became ECC's chief creative officer.

Lorax Capital Partners holds a minority stake in ECC. ECC's website dates its investment to 2021, while TechScoop says Lorax has held 33 percent since 2022.

TechScoop reported on 19 June 2026, citing an interview with chief executive Mohamed Salah, that ECC planned to invest more than 2 billion Egyptian pounds in Egypt over three years, including factories for packaging and nutritional supplements. It said ECC's first Saudi factory could open as early as August 2026 with an investment near 50 million riyals.
