About Edama
Edama is a Saudi Arabian organic waste recycling company based at the KAUST Research and Technology Park in Thuwal. It turns discarded food and landscaping material into products intended for agriculture and land restoration in dry environments. Its services cover waste analysis, composting facility design, construction support, operations and the sale of the resulting soil products. Facilities are adapted to a community’s waste volumes, available land and operating requirements.
The company’s product portfolio includes Desert Compost, a soil improver designed for sandy soils, and Palm Peat, a growing medium made from date palm waste. Its processing methods address local conditions such as high temperatures and difficult feedstocks. Laboratory analysis and quality control form part of the service, alongside education about separating organic waste.
Edama graduated from TAQADAM in 2018 and received a $780,000 seed investment from the KAUST Innovation Fund in 2020. Its commercial composting facility at KAUST opened in 2022. The installation was developed to handle the university’s food and green waste and supply soil improvers for local use. SIRC’s 2024 sustainability report places Edama within Yadoum’s organic recycling activities following an acquisition.
