About Doha Tech Angels
Doha Tech Angels, known as DTA, is an angel investment club in Doha, Qatar. It describes itself as Qatar's first and most active private investment club and says it backs technology-driven startups, from seed to Series A, that have strong founding teams and demonstrated customer traction. Alongside capital, it says it offers mentorship and connections across Qatar, the MENA region and globally.
DTA says it was established by 15 founding partners, a group of investors, entrepreneurs and executives from the private and public sectors with expertise in technology, finance, telecommunications, real estate, banking, education and healthcare. Qatar's Ministry of Transport and Communications reported in March 2018 that the club was launched at the Digital Incubation Center's Make the Deal 2 event, with 15 angel investors including Dr. Hessa Al Jaber and Dr. Nasser Marafih. The Peninsula described it in March 2019 as a Qatar Financial Centre registered angel fund and the first private angel fund in Qatar. Partner Marwan Marouf, a former QNB banker, says he joined other Qatari investors in founding DTA in 2018.
By March 2019, The Peninsula reported, DTA had made five investments: ShopUp in Singapore, Carzaty in Oman, Adfone in the United States, and Droobi Health and Stars League in Qatar. It had held six pitch sessions, with more than 20 startups pitching from over 100 applications from 26 countries. Its website now shows Calypso Commodities, an AI platform for managing an LNG book, Unipal, a youth benefits platform, Polymerize.io, which applies AI to materials innovation, and Nova Talent, a professional network.
In 2026 TechScoop named DTA among the backers of the Qatari payments company SkipCash in its US$4 million Series A round, alongside Qatar Development Bank, Qatar Islamic Insurance Company, KBN Holding Group and Finjan Venture Investments. The website lists 14 partners by name but gives no titles, and DTA has not published its fund size, number of investments or number of members.
