About Cursor
Cursor is an AI-assisted code editor and set of coding agents developed by Anysphere, a San Francisco company whose website describes it as an applied research lab working on the future of programming. The editor is built as a fork of Microsoft's VS Code, so existing extensions keep working. It offers chat-style help, autocomplete and agents that write, edit and review code, and the company trains its own Composer models.
Anysphere was founded in 2022 by Michael Truell, Sualeh Asif, Aman Sanger and Arvid Lunnemark, who met as students at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Truell is chief executive, and a 2026 conference biography names Jordan Topoleski as chief operating officer. Lunnemark left in October 2025 to found the AI safety lab Integrous Research.
Cursor runs as a desktop app, a command-line agent and a Slack integration, with cloud agents and Bugbot for reviewing pull requests. NVIDIA, Uber and Adobe were named as customers at the Series C, and Nokia, Grab and Navan have published customer stories.
Cursor bought the code-completion startup Supermaven in November 2024 and agreed to acquire the code-review platform Graphite in December 2025. In August 2026 it launched Origin, a code-hosting service inside the editor that competes with GitHub.
Anysphere raised an $8 million seed round led by the OpenAI Startup Fund in October 2023, a $60 million Series A led by Andreessen Horowitz in August 2024 and a $105 million Series B in January 2025. A $900 million Series C followed in June 2025 at a $9.9 billion valuation and a $2.3 billion Series D in November 2025 at a $29.3 billion post-money valuation. At the Series D it reported more than $1 billion in annualised revenue and a team of over 300.
TechCrunch reported that SpaceX took an option to buy the company for $60 billion in April 2026 and agreed the all-stock merger in June. Cursor announced on 14 August 2026 that the acquisition had closed, making it a SpaceX subsidiary. Its security page says it holds SOC 2 Type II, ISO/IEC 27001, ISO/IEC 42001 and AIUC-1 certifications.
