About Capcom
Capcom is a Japanese video game developer and publisher headquartered in Osaka. Its roots go back to 1979, when its predecessor company was founded by Kenzo Tsujimoto, and Capcom Co., Ltd. was established under its current name in June 1983. Its franchises include Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, Street Fighter, Mega Man, Devil May Cry, Dead Rising, Ace Attorney and Dragon's Dogma. Capcom lists operations in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Tokyo, and Wikipedia reports about 3,766 employees in 2025.
TechScoop's reporting describes a business that combines long-running intellectual property with continuing development of new titles, with digital and downloadable content as drivers of sustained growth. For its fiscal year ended March 2025, Capcom reported net sales of JPY 169.6 billion and operating income of JPY 65.8 billion, with Monster Hunter Wilds, released in February 2025, as the main growth driver, according to the company's investor relations release.
Capcom appears in TechScoop's coverage because of investment by the Electronic Gaming Development Company (EGDC), a subsidiary of the Saudi Misk Foundation, also known as the Mohammed bin Salman Foundation. On 13 March 2026 EGDC filed a Large Shareholding Report with the Kanto Local Finance Bureau disclosing 26,788,500 shares, equal to 5.03 percent of Capcom's outstanding shares. The filing described the holding as pure investment, aimed at capital gains and dividends. A report filed on 6 April 2026 raised the holding to 32,186,900 shares, or 6.04 percent, which would make EGDC Capcom's fourth-largest shareholder based on the company's 31 December shareholder data.
This position is separate from the stake of more than 5 percent that Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund has held since 2022. One report also says Ayar First Investment held about 6.6 percent from January 2026, and commentators put combined Saudi-linked holdings above 10 percent, although that total is a reporter's estimate rather than a filed figure. The costs of the share purchases were not disclosed.
The articles place the investment within a wider pattern of Saudi-linked stakes in international game companies, including Nintendo, Electronic Arts and Activision Blizzard, in line with the Kingdom's Vision 2030 goal of developing gaming. No concrete partnership with Capcom has been announced.
