About Arbor Ventures
Arbor Ventures is a venture capital firm that invests in financial technology companies. Its website lists payments, cyber, insurance, regtech, AI and machine learning, marketplaces, identity and fraud, capital markets, debt collection and blockchain among its areas. Its manager, Arbor Venture Management Company Pte. Ltd., appears on the Monetary Authority of Singapore's register as a Capital Markets Services licensee for venture capital fund management, with an address at 6 Battery Road in Singapore.
Melissa Cannon Guzy and Wei Hopeman founded the firm in 2013, according to AVCJ. Finovate described it in November 2013 as Hong Kong-based with Silicon Valley roots, investing in Singapore, Hong Kong and ASEAN companies. Guzy and Hopeman are its co-founders and managing partners. Hopeman is a former managing director and head of Asia at Citi Ventures. Khaled Lababidi is a partner, Daisuke Nagayama is a venture partner in Japan, Greg Abbott is chief financial officer and Kristin Keranen is general counsel.
AVCJ reported in May 2018 that Arbor's first fund closed at $125 million and that its second fund had $178.5 million in commitments against a $220 million target, with offices then in Shanghai, Tokyo and Tel Aviv. On 2 May 2023 the firm's press page recorded an investment in Arbor by the Dubai Future District Fund through a fund-of-funds programme.
Its portfolio, as reported in 2018, included Paidy, a Japanese deferred-payment provider, QuanCheng, a Chinese expense management company, Abra, TrueAccord, NS8 and Silot. The team page says Guzy holds board seats at Paidy, TrueAccord, Tabby and Fundbox, and that Hopeman sits on the boards of Abra and Booking Holdings.
Arbor reached the Gulf through Lean Technologies, the Riyadh open banking company, which named Arbor among participants in its $67.5 million Series B, led by General Catalyst, in a release dated 11 November 2024. TechScoop reported the round in June 2026.
Arbor's website lists relationships with 55 banks, 50 non-bank financial institutions, 35 major technology platforms, 30 payment platforms, 20 regulators and 15 insurers. The sources reviewed give no assets under management or fund size after 2018.
