About Alkhattat

Alkhattat (Manassat Al-Khattat, meaning the Calligrapher platform) is a Saudi online platform for Arabic calligraphy. Its site describes it as the first electronic platform for Arabic calligraphy services and offers training courses, events and workshops, services, products, an artists directory with appointment booking, and a gallery linked to a cultural skills competition.

The platform's events page lists paid workshops in 2026, including calligraphy in Diwani and Ruq'ah scripts with calligrapher Mohammed Al-Shehabi, a children's calligraphy workshop, silk-screen printing and oil portrait painting, some held in Riyadh venues such as Hub Space in Al-Malaz. Listed prices range from about SAR 75 to SAR 1,450. Artists can apply to join, and the site supports accounts for individuals, schools and teams.

Arab News and a Ministry of Culture release reported that the Ministry of Culture launched the platform in April 2020 as the first e-learning platform for Arabic calligraphy and Islamic decorative arts, under the Year of Arabic Calligraphy and the Quality of Life Program, with courses in six scripts. The initiative was later opened to the public with free courses. A startup directory lists an Alkhattat profile founded in 2017 with a freemium and product-sales model, but this conflicts with the government origin and could not be reconciled.
