About ثواني

Thawani is an Omani fintech company that runs the Thawani Pay app, which the company describes as Oman's first non-banking super app. The app handles mobile payments by phone number, alias or QR code, bill payments for utilities, mobile top-ups and traffic fines, cross-border money transfers, prepaid Visa cards, car insurance comparison and donations.

The company was founded in 2016 by Majid Al Amri, according to a 2026 profile of him by Finance News International, and he is its founder, managing director and board member. Girish Nanda is chief executive, and the company's website describes him as having more than 30 years in card payments, including roles at Mastercard and Network International.

For businesses, Thawani offers a payment gateway, payment links, the Tajer app and a business portal, and in 2025 it launched Mojab Business, a corporate card. The Sama programme links employers to discounts at partner merchants. Thawani is based in Muscat.

The company says it was the first Omani fintech to receive PCI-DSS certification, a milestone Finance News International dates to 2018, and that it received a payment service provider licence from the Central Bank of Oman in 2020 as the first non-bank fintech to do so. It obtained a licence to issue Visa prepaid cards in 2024. On 29 October 2025 Times of Oman reported that Visa had licensed Thawani to issue credit cards, which it called a first for an Omani fintech. Forbes Middle East ranked it 40th in its Fintech 50 list for 2024 and 36th in 2025, according to the company.

In January 2026 Thawani announced a strategic partnership with Network International to expand credit card capabilities in Oman. Its news page lists 2026 agreements with Al Mahruqi Group, Mwasalat, Talabat and Yango Ride, and a PCI-DSS certification announcement on 14 May 2026.

In May 2023 Oman International Development and Investment Company, known as OmInvest, acquired a share in Thawani Technologies. Oman Observer reported that neither the stake size nor the price was disclosed.
