About البنك الوطني العُماني
National Bank of Oman is a commercial bank in the Sultanate of Oman, listed on the Muscat Securities Market. It serves customers through five segments: retail, corporate, investment banking, treasury and international banking, and Islamic banking. The bank says it is the only Omani bank licensed to operate in Dubai.
The bank was established in 1973 as a joint stock company and describes itself as the first incorporated bank in Oman. It opened with two branches and initial capital of OMR 500,000. Its first principal shareholders were W.J. Towell and Co with 51 percent and Bank of America with 39 percent. BCCI acquired the Bank of America stake in 1987, and the Omani Government recapitalised the bank in 1991 after BCCI's operations were suspended. Suhail Bahwan Group bought a 35 percent holding through a private share issue in 2003, and in 2005 part of the holdings were sold to Commercial Bank of Qatar, which holds 34.9 percent.
For individuals, the bank offers accounts, loans, insurance and investment products, along with Sadara Priority Banking and Privilege Banking tiers and the Nuqati rewards programme. Its digital services include internet and mobile banking, digital account opening, a mobile wallet, Apple Pay, Samsung Wallet, Badeel prepaid cards, a merchant app, cardless cash withdrawal and instant international transfers. Times of Oman reported that in 2025 the bank added an electronic direct debit authorisation service, a partial cheque payment service and subscription to a structured investment plan through its app.
Times of Oman reported on 7 February 2026 that the bank earned a net profit of OMR 70.2 million for 2025, third among Muscat-listed banks, with total assets of about OMR 5.2 billion at the end of December 2025. On its second-quarter 2026 results call, the chief executive said first-half net profit grew by close to 15 percent to around OMR 39 million. Net interest income rose about 12 percent to close to OMR 60 million, and gross loans grew 9.3 percent from a year earlier.
